The plant, Hyssopus officinalis, has fragrant flowers and leaves, which are used for extracting hyssop oil. The purple flowers look same as lavender. This is a multipurpose essential oil with floral, minty fragrance. The tannins and flavonoids are present in the oil, which make the oil have its antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This essential oil is beneficial in the treatment of common cold, asthma, inflammation, skin irritation, and infection. Do not consume this oil as it can cause abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea.
